Welcome to the Vineyards and Winery at Château Hough, located in the heart of the historic Hough neighborhood of Cleveland, OH, equidistant between Downtown Cleveland and the heart of University Circle. We offer a variety of seven bold, crisp, and contemporary wines made from the two varieties of cold-hearty grapes we grow on-site: Our red Frontenac and white Traminette … both of which have characteristics that are specific to their unique profiles.
Mission
Our vineyards and winery support the efforts of our non-profit, Neighborhood Solutions Inc. whose mission is to “use innovative educational and entrepreneurial strategies to encourage, prepare and assist at-risk youth, veterans, and those returning — or who have returned — to neighborhoods after incarceration in creating greener, healthier and wealthier places to live, work, and raise families.

Our Grapes
Our Traminette grapes are a hybrid of the French American Joannes Seyve and the German Vitis vinifera cultivar Gewürztraminer. The crossbreeding results in a large clustered grape that retains most of the flavor of Gewürztraminer, but with a slightly sweeter touch. Our Frontenac is a hybrid vine that is the result of research and cross-breeding by the University of Minnesota. It was grown from crossbreeding the complex hybrid Landot 4511 and a very cold hardy selection of Vitis riparia. Both varieties have proven they can stand the sometimes brutal Cleveland winters. |

Vision for the Future
The goal of our project was two-fold: To introduce a wider audience to our Hough community via establishing a chic, upscale and innovative venture, and to improve the economics of a community, which goes hand-and-glove with improving public safety. The 7th Ward (which Hough is a part of) is on the cusp of renewed development after a period of dormancy that has lasted for over a decade. Ideally located between Greater Cleveland’s two main hubs and proximity to world-class institutions, Hough is poised to fulfill the dream of recreating a vibrant mixed-income and mixed-race community that fits the desires and needs of a wide variety of families seeking an urban living experience. |
